Canada Basketball National Team Arrives in Jakarta, Brings 7 NBA Players

Jakarta, FIBA – The Canadian Basketball Players National Team was the first to come to Jakarta ahead of the FIBA World Cup 2023. The team, coached by Jordi Fernandez, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang on Monday (21/8) early morning.

The Canadian delegation departed from Granada for Indonesia using a charter plane. Bringing a group of 38 people and consisting of team representatives, players, coaching teams, and the medical team.

Before coming to Indonesia, Canada had its final warm-up match ahead of the 2023 Basketball World Cup against the Dominican Republic in Granada, Spain, Saturday (19/8). Canada lost 88-94 after Fernandez, fielded a substitute against Dominica, who was reinforced by Minnesota Timberwolves bigman Karl-Anthony Towns.

For information, before the entourage of players arrived, Canadian coach Jordi Fernandez arrived earlier on Sunday (21/8) afternoon. In addition, until now Canada has not announced the names of players for the final roster at the FIBA World Cup.

There are now 14 players on the roster of which 12 players for the Canadian squad to compete in will be determined ahead of the Technical Meeting on August 24. In the current roster, there are seven players who strengthened NBA teams. The rest play in well-known European clubs.

Meanwhile, one player, Zach Edey, is still an NCAA player from Purdue University. The 2.24-meter center got his basketball talent from his mother, who is a Chinese immigrant.
